3rd Ward

Bishopric message

Good afternoon Parley’s 3rd Ward,

We hope you are safe and warm this weekend.

A quick thought from “Come, Follow Me” and Gospel Living App. (Doctrine and Covenants 6–9):

We would be overwhelmed and confused if God told us everything all at once. Instead, He reveals things “line upon line, precept upon precept” (2 Nephi 28:30), both to us as individuals and to the whole Church.

The revelations in these sections—received early in the Restoration and placed near the beginning of the Doctrine and Covenants—teach one of the most important things we need to know: how to receive and recognize personal revelation.

Joseph Smith had some experience with this pattern. But his new scribe, Oliver Cowdery, was still learning the basics. In these sections, it’s like we’re sitting in on Oliver’s personal tutoring sessions with the Lord.

Learning to receive answers from the Lord is like learning how to read. You can’t get very far in your education without it. But you don’t have to be an expert right away, either. You might be a little slow and awkward at first. As with reading, hearing the Lord gets easier and comes more naturally the more you do it.

So, stay close to the Lord, and keep listening!

Our Stake Youth Council will be speaking to us tomorrow in our sacrament meeting. It is always encouraging to hear the testimonies of our wonderful youth in the Ward and Stake. Tomorrow is a 5th Sunday, which means the meeting in-person for group K-Z. Click here to join the meeting remotely.

Following our sacrament meeting, we will have our 5th Sunday combined (Adults & Youth) virtual meeting from 10:30am-11:15am. The topic of the meeting is Family History. Jim and Natalie McCullough our Temple and Family History Leaders have created a video presentation for us, featuring themselves and several Ward members. You won’t want to miss this inspiring message! We will watch the video together as a Ward during the meeting. To join the Zoom meeting: Click here
