Where is the trek being held?

At Hardware Ranch in Cache Valley, Utah.

What is the purpose of trek?

To gain an understanding and appreciation of the pioneer heritage and the faith, perseverance and sacrifices the early saints. To have opportunities to feel the spirit and strengthen your testimony of the Savior. To learn from the past and to gain strength and courage for your future.

What will we do on trek?

We will push handcarts and walk.  We will also sing, dance, camp and have lots of fun.  We will exercise faith, sacrifice and perseverance.  We will feel the spirit and come closer to the Savior.

Who can participate in trek?

The Parleys Stake Pioneer Trek of 2022 is for all youth living within the stake boundaries going into 8th grade in 2022 and older.  We are encouraging all 2022 graduating youth to also attend.

What is the registration deadline?

Registration deadline is April 1, 2022.

Can I leave early or come late to trek?

Unfortunately not, all participants must register knowing they will be able to attend the entire trek.

How will we get to and from the trek location?

Buses will transport the trekkers to and from the trek location.

How far will we be walking each day?

Trek participants will be walking and pulling a handcart 4-5 miles each day.

What medical provisions are going to be provided?

  • There will be a medical team consisting of doctors and nurses attending trek.
  • A medical unit will be set up at camp.
  • Anyone taking prescription medication is responsible to bring, store, and take them as prescribed.  Please notify the medical team if you need assistance.

What is a “Trek Family?”

Each young man and young woman will be assigned to a Trek Family.  Ma’s, Pa’s, Aunts and Uncles have been carefully selected from the wards in our stake.  These individuals will lead the families for the duration of the trek.  Other members of your Trek Family will be other young men and women for the different wards in our stake.  There will be 8 to 10 members to each family.

What will we eat?

Trek participants will be provided with snacks and three meals each day.  If a trekker has significant food allergies, it is the responsibility of the participant to provide alternate food.  This alternate food will be stored by the trek food committee.  We can accommodate some medically needed food requests (gluten free and vegetarian).

What about bathroom facilities?

Portable toilets will be available in the campground and on some locations along the trail.

Will there be plenty of water?

Each handcart will have sufficient water for drinking and washing hands.  There is not water for washing hair or bathing.  It is important for each trekker to drink enough water.

Why are electronic devices not allowed?

This is a tremendous and rare opportunity to get out of the world and worldly influences.  Being away from electronics allows for better opportunities to feel the Spirit and to interact and bond with our trek families.

What do I wear on trek?

You will wear pioneer clothing.  Please also wear walking shoes that are well broken-in.

When will family assignments be made?

The morning of June 13th you will be assigned a Ma and Pa and trek family before heading to the trek location in Cache Valley, Idaho.
