Parleys Stake COVID-19 Update
We love you and are praying for you. We encourage you to accept our Prophet, President Nelson’s invitation to join with him in a worldwide fast this Sunday, March 29, to pray for relief from the physical, emotional and economic effects of this global pandemic. We have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His power to consecrate our fasting and prayer to the world’s benefit. We also provide the following updates: We strongly encourage all of you to continue to follow local, state and national directives regarding COVID-19, including the Governor’s March 27 Directive. We are closely monitoring the status of our missionaries in the United States and abroad. Some of them have returned home, some have been reassigned, some are awaiting reassignment, some will remain in their current assignments, and we are still awaiting the return of others. The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are keenly aware of these missionaries and are working very closely with the Missionary Department to ensure the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of all of them. Our Area Presidency has also provided guidance on the status of missionaries in this unprecedented time. When missionaries return home to the Salt Lake City Airport, please follow the counsel of our Area Presidency: “Parents or guardians should go to the airport alone to meet a returning missionary and practice safe social distancing while there. That way, the missionary is able to properly begin self-isolation.” We are so grateful for the many inspiring examples of ministering we have seen and heard, including administration of the Sacrament. Please continue your faithful efforts. Know that our Relief Society and Elders Quorum Presidencies stand ready to help you and will continue to conduct ministering interviews—most often remotely—to ensure the well-being of our members and neighbors. Elder Renlund recently spoke to a group of our missionaries and reminded them that some of the greatest inspiration and revelation has come to the faithful in circumstances of hardship and captivity. As the Savior said to the Prophet Joseph Smith in Liberty Jail: “My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.” Doctrine & Covenants 121:7-8. May we all have the peace and comfort the Savior provides as we battle the common foe of COVID-19. The Parleys Stake Presidency, Matthew T. Wirthlin Samuel C. Straight Timothy K. Conde |
