Bishopric message
Good evening brothers and sisters,
One thing is for sure, Salt Lake City’s weather in the spring can be a little inconsistent, 50 degrees today and the forecast shows we will be in the mid 90’s next week. There is nothing really ordinary about where we live, we are convinced that is one of the reasons we are so fond our area.
Ministering. We continue to be amazed at the many acts of kindness happening in our community. And believe there is an increased sense of unity among both our neighbors and complete strangers alike. As we continue to make progress to overcome the affects of COVID-19, we need to persist in taking care of those around us, especially those who we have been assigned to minister. In the Book of Mormon, Alma led many righteous believers away from the wicked rule of King Noah and his priests. Alma’s people were often in danger for their lives and were pursued by Noah’s armies. At times they only found refuge by fleeing into the wilderness. In order for this group of people to survive and establish the ability to worship according to their heart’s desires, they needed to serve each other. “Therefore they did watch over their people, and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness.” —Mosiah 23:18. Despite the opposition, this brave group of saints strengthened each other by serving one another.
Ministering is learning of and attending to others’ needs. It is doing the Lord’s work. When we minister, we are representing Jesus Christ and acting as His agents to watch over, lift, and strengthen those around us. Each of us has been assigned specific brothers and sisters by inspiration from our Relief Society and Elders Quorum. Individually and as companionships we are uniquely qualified and authorized to serve and bless those we are assigned to. Everyone’s needs are different. And our own abilities as ministering brothers and sisters are very much distinct from each other. Together we can recognize our strengths and weaknesses and become stronger. May the Lord bless us all as we serve together and see the profound effects of love and compassion among those in our neighborhood. if you are not certain what your ministering assignment is, it can be viewed in “Tools” or you can reach out to the Relief Society and Elder’s Quorum Presidencies for assistance.
Sacrament Meeting Messages. This week we are blessed to hear messages from our very own high school seniors. They are very impressive young men and women. View video messages from: Sarah Jane Romney, Andrew Thomas, Sam Gochnour, Emma Conde and Will Poulson.
Also, some exciting news to share, Brother Andrew Thomas received his mission call this week. To learn where and when Andrew has been called to serve, view his message.
Sunday Meetings. Earlier this week our Stake Presidency sent an email to us regarding a forthcoming plan to return to our Sunday meetings. Be assured they are using all the best information and resources available to determine the best path forward for our Stake. We will send any information to you when it is received.
Memorial Day. This weekend and Monday we are privileged to honor those women and men who died while serving in our armed forces. We are grateful to all those that paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we could enjoy the blessings of freedom. May God bless the families of these brave soldiers. And may God bless America.
Love,
The Bishopric
