Bishopric message
Good afternoon friends in the Parley’s 3rd Ward, We are so encouraged by all of the many wonderful things happening in our community at this time. There is progress with vaccinations, our children are back in school (sort of), we are receiving needed moisture and many are engaged in serving others. “The enduring joy of the gospel” is a phrase from the new Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Theme. But why is joy described as enduring? And as something rooted in the gospel? Well, joy in the gospel sense is different from mere pleasure or contentment. President Russell M. Nelson taught that joy comes not from our circumstances but from our focus.…

Dear Parleys 3rd Ward, We hope you had a nice week. How fun it is to have snow and winter weather! Scripture of the week: D&C 14:7 “And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.” We are so thankful for the Plan of Redemption. How fortunate we are! God is great! Tomorrow we will be pleased to hear from Sister Jepsen and Brother Jepsen. As a reminder, we are now permitted to have 150 people in our sacrament meetings. For the time being, we will continue with our assigned weeks (A-K weeks…

Good afternoon friends, We hope you are enjoying the beautiful sunshine today. On Wednesday evening, the young women held their annual New Beginning’s meeting. It was a real treat to see our young women gathered together in the chapel enjoying their tender friendships. In the meeting the girls and their leaders introduced the new incoming young women and shared some of their many talents including singing & playing musical instruments. They also introduced this year’s youth theme, which is based on the scriptures Doctrine & Covenants 66:33-34 33 Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth…

Good afternoon Parley’s 3rd Ward, We hope you are safe and warm this weekend. A quick thought from “Come, Follow Me” and Gospel Living App. (Doctrine and Covenants 6–9): We would be overwhelmed and confused if God told us everything all at once. Instead, He reveals things “line upon line, precept upon precept” (2 Nephi 28:30), both to us as individuals and to the whole Church. The revelations in these sections—received early in the Restoration and placed near the beginning of the Doctrine and Covenants—teach one of the most important things we need to know: how to receive and recognize personal revelation. Joseph Smith had some experience with this pattern.…

Good afternoon Parley’s 3rd Ward, There is reason for great hope and encouragement as a vaccine for COVID 19 is in early phases of distribution in our community. Through our faith in God and persistence, we continue to progress toward a better world. “Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God” Ether 12:4. We continue to be impressed with the deep-seated anchors of faith and…

Dear Members of Parleys 3rd Ward, Scattered on the slopes of our beautiful Rocky Mountains are innumerable trees, coniferous and deciduous. A sharp eye can spot among this vast canopy an occasional aspen tree that has a wildly crooked trunk (see the attached images below). This tree apparently suffered an ordeal early in its life, probably due to a severe snowpack. Please note that this tree recovered! Look how strong and tall it has grown! This tree is perhaps a metaphor for life’s twists and turns. Let’s call 2020 the crook or bend in this tree’s trunk. In 2021 we have a chance to further straighten our paths and to…

Good evening Parley’s 3rd Ward, We hope you are enjoying the excitement and optimism that comes with starting a new year. We are very blessed to be able to reside in the chosen nation of the restoration of the gospel. Despite America’s current struggles and challenges, our nation was founded by God, established with principles of faith, love and fairness. Let us join together and acknowledge the hand of the Lord as we pray for this country, for our leaders, and for every individual and family within it’s borders. May our leaders be inspired to stand for righteousness and truth. May our Father in Heaven continue to bless America. Tomorrow…
