3rd Ward

Bishopric message

Good afternoon,

We hope you have enjoyed a beautiful spring Saturday.

Here is a “Come, follow me” quote from the Gospel Living App about God’s desire for us to be happy:

The Lord is delighted to bless us.

God is looking for ways to bless, encourage, and support us.

Some people think of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as angry and stern beings, always looking for an excuse to withhold blessings. But the truth is the opposite!

“Hearken and hear, O ye my people, saith the Lord and your God, ye whom I delight to bless with the greatest of all blessings” (Doctrine and Covenants 41:1).

The Lord is eager to bless us. It makes Him happy! The hymn “Dearest Children, God Is Near You,” written by a Latter-day Saint named Charles L. Walker, expresses this idea:

“Dearest children, God is near you, Watching o’er you day and night, And delights to own and bless you, If you strive to do what’s right. He will bless you, He will bless you, If you put your trust in him.”1

Bottom line? Obedience leads to happiness: ours and God’s—and often the happiness of other people, too. Following the commandments is totally worth it!

Tomorrow is our May Fast Sunday. Last names L-Z are invited to participate in-person. Click here for those wishing to join the meeting on YouTube.

Our Primary in-person meetings are coming soon. We hope to have some more definitive plans to share with you soon.

Tomorrow our youth Sunday School classes will be meeting in-person again. Please consider the following message and instructions regarding our youth Sunday School classes from our Sunday School President, Andrew Sipherd.

Youth Sunday School Class Locations and Start Time Reminders

Parents of our great young men and women:

We are excited to have Youth Sunday School in person again! With that said, there are some challenges we are trying to work through. We are hoping you can help!

With only half of the ward going to sacrament meeting each week, some of our youth are not right there to be in Sunday School class before the start time of 10:15am.

Because of this, last week we had some teachers, who had prepared lessons, leave early because some classes only had 1 youth to teacher ratio, which is not a comfortable situation for either the teacher or the youth. The youth of some of these classes showed up later, and we had them join another class.

In an occasional pinch, with one or two kids, this is usually not a problem. However, when many kids show up late, this situation puts an additional burden on other teachers who were not prepared to accommodate more kids.

With that said, we ask that you please try to have your kids to the ward and their classes, no later than 10:10am, so class can start at 10:15am. We hope this allows adequate time for those coming from home after the administration of the sacrament.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your kids’ teachers. If you don’t know who your kids’ teachers are, please reach out to Andrew Sipherd at 801-597-1731, and he can inform you who your child’s teacher is. We love these kids and our Sunday School teachers, and we hope to make this transition back to in person Youth Sunday School equally rewarding for both the kids and teachers. Thanks in advance for your help with this!

Below is a reminder of where each of your kids’ classes will meet:

  • Alexis Courtney’s class will meet in the main primary room
  • Jane and Craig Jensen’s class will meet in room 118 old elders quorum room on west hallway
  • Jan and Dale Lambert’s class will meet in room 106 by mother’s room on east hallway
