3rd Ward

Bishopric message

Good evening,

We hope you are enjoying your Labor Day Weekend. Labor Day was established to honor industrious women and men that worked hard to make our country great. This year we are especially grateful for the dedicated people in health care and other industries that labor in difficult conditions to make our lives better and safer.

This week we are pleased to hear from two of our Ward’s recently returned missionaries.

Sister Emma Romney served faithfully in the Germany, Frankfurt Mission.

Elder Max Okland returned last week from the Arkansas, Little Rock Mission.

Both, Emma and Max are living in Provo attending BYU. We thank them for sharing their testimonies and missionary experiences with their friends in Parley’s 3rd.

A quick thought from Come, Follow Me, shared in the Gospel Living App (Helaman 7–12) Amazing miracles aren’t enough to convert.

The prophet Nephi gave his people an unmistakable sign of his divine calling. He told them their chief judge had been murdered, revealed who the killer was, and even predicted how the conversation would go when the murderer was confronted — all things Nephi had no earthly way of knowing.

And were the people convinced that Nephi was a true prophet? A few were (Helaman 9:39–40), but for the most part, no: “Notwithstanding that great miracle which Nephi had done … they did harden their hearts and did not hearken unto the words of the Lord” (Helaman 10:13).

Flashy miracles can validate and fan the flame of faith, but for those who do not have faith in the first place, they can be ignored or dismissed as magic tricks. True, lasting conversion comes from the quiet, steady, constant voice of the Holy Ghost.

We look forward to seeing those that are able to join us in our Sacrament Meetings next Sunday, September 13th. More details about the meetings to come. Thank you for participating in the anonymous survey sent earlier today. As a result of the survey we hope to better accommodate member’s needs.

We love and appreciate you,

The Bishopric
