Things to Do While Self-Quarantined

Contribution by Sister Nancy Miles

Ok. We are all concerned about getting too close to anyone, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Don’t know when we will see anyone or how long it will last. In the meantime, I am reading a lot of good books, cooking and trying new recipes, making a lot of bread, exercising, working on my upcoming cooking classes and new book, walking the dogs, housework, naps, movies, and of course and keeping up with everyone on all social media. Next week I will be doing virtual dinners with friends and family, by way of Skype. I will send an invitation, along with a recipe that we both will make. We will set a date to set up Skype and will see each other, talk and eat together.  For you, I share my list of ten things to do while self-quarantined.

  1. Planting seeds of all things you like to eat, so you can have healthy reliable fruits and veggies, when we might be short on them in the spring.
  2. Work on your GENEALOGY!!
  3. Writing cards to people you want to reach out to like for a birthday, illness, sad and lonely, etc. Leaving a note on a doorstep of encouragement and asking if they need anything, leave your name and phone number, so they can reach you.
  4. Oh, yes, Crafts and hobbies of all kind. Like puzzles, cards and board games, sewing and painting. Or start a new hobby you have had an interest in, but no time for it.
  5. My friend, Lynda,  and I started Rocks Art last year while we were in Mesquite a few months, getting out of the winter in Salt Lake. We worked on some this year and have many more we would like to paint. You could do some rocks of encouragement with your kids, Words like Joy, Peace, Enjoy, Smile, Family etc.
  6. You might want to do some rearranging of the furniture in your home. Chance is good for you and can be uplifting.
  7. Thinking of taking some online courses, not sure which ones yet, but it’s something to think about.
  8. You could take your yearly journals and make a book out of it. Have it bound and give to your family for a gift.
  9. Keeping busy and have positive thoughts is the key. Laying around only causes negative thinking and muscles starting to relax too much. We must keep moving and have faith that this will pass on  before the 18 months or longer, time  predicted.
  10. Enjoy the wonderful podcasts and limitless videos and websites offered through the Church.

It can be a good day, one at a time, after all, it is your choice.
