3rd Ward

Bishopric message

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We testify that the Holy Ghost is real and guides us on the trail of life. I feel impressed to share an experience that we had while hiking King’s Peak with the young men this week. While discussing items that we would need for our hike, it was recommended that we take Bleed Stop (a first aid powder to help clot wounds) something that I have never packed nor used. It was added to one of the three first-aid kits that we took. When the morning to summit came, I looked at my pack and evaluated what I really needed to carry to 13,500 feet. I finally grabbed one of the kits that had the broadest range of supplies. As we were leaving, I felt impressed to go back and pull out the packets of Bleed Stop left behind.

On the descent back to base camp, there is a steep chute with lots of loose rocks and gravel and sadly a rock from above tumbled down and struck a young teenage girl in the head. We quickly stopped our group as well as other groups coming down as she was laying in the middle of the chute below. After a few moments, I felt impressed to go down to see how I could help while the others in our group held hikers back. Miraculously, not a single rock slid down on my descent. As I approached, the girl’s uncle had just finished administering a priesthood blessing, because they were not able to stop the bleeding on the 4-inch gash on the back of her head. I quickly pulled out the packet of Bleed Stop and we applied the powder to the wound. The bleeding stopped almost immediately. I shared a tender moment with the family as they were quick to acknowledge the Lord’s hand in answering their prayers for help. After checking her over, she had no other signs of head trauma and was able to work her way back down the mountain to her base camp.

As we discussed the experience on the trail and around the campfire that night, we recognized the guidance of the Holy Ghost and were so grateful and humbled to be instruments in the Lord’s hands.

We know the still small voice prompted multiple people in our group to be in a place where we could participate in the miracle. We testify of the priesthood’s healing power and know that as we listen to the promptings of the Spirit, the Lord will perform miracles in our lives and the lives of others.

We look forward to worshiping with you today. For a virtual option please click here.

Love,
P3 Bishopric
