Bishop Message – 04/18
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Parleys 6 Ward, We hope this message finds you safe and healthy. We continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers and we know you are also praying for others. It’s comforting and strengthening to know and practice the power of fasting and prayer. As I continue to see the thoughtful acts of caring for each other, I am reminded of the talk given by Elder John A. McCune, of the Seventy, in our recent General Conference. He said, “Through Christ’s Church, we are strengthened through our experiences as a community of Saints. We hear His voice through His prophets, seers, and revelators. Most importantly, through…

Bishop Wallis – Easter Message
I loved general conference last weekend. It was wonderful to hear from our prophet and other church leaders. There were many messages that brought comfort and hope to me over those two days. While it seems like the work of the Lord has come to a standstill with so many of our missionaries being recalled, our temples closed and not being able to worship together, it was thrilling to hear about temples being approved and planned for in Shanghai, China and the United Arab Emirates among other places! Then came Monday and back to reality. The week started with some dark headlines. President Trump predicted the week would “probably be…

Bishopric message
Hello Parley’s 3rd Ward! We hope this email finds you well and in good spirits. There is so much to talk about. Covid-19 has changed all our lives, but there is so much good happening in our ward. Random acts of kindness abound. People are showing love and genuine concern for one another. The weather has been good. There have never been so many people out walking around, and we feel a togetherness in spite of the social limitations. General Conference was inspiring. If ever we need direction and inspiration from a prophet, it’s now. At President Nelson’s request, many fasted yesterday, Good Friday, for relief from Covid-19. We will…

Bishop’s Thought
As I listened to conference this afternoon I was impressed by my own need for a personal and family “check-up”. Elder Tai of the Seventy spoke about a recent visit to the doctor’s office where he was asked to make some changes in his eating and exercise habits to improve his health. He then posed a question about what kind of changes we might need to make in our own lives if we were to undergo a “spiritual examination.” This type of personal reflection was further emphasized by Elder Stevenson’s talk at the end of the session when he discussed the closure of the Salt Lake Temple for renovation and…

COVID19 Update – 04/04
As we are ending week 3 of home church, home schooling, social distancing and our state’s ‘stay home, stay safe’ directive we were so grateful for the opportunity to pause and listen to the words of living prophets and church leaders during General Conference today. We hope that you have also been enjoying it and are looking forward to participating in a special solemn assembly during the Sunday morning session. As mentioned, if you do not have a white handkerchief at home, there is no need to go out and purchase one. We have been instructed to simply wave our hand for the Hosana shout. We love and appreciate each…

Bishopric message
Good evening Brothers and Sisters, In spite of the fact that we are living in an uncertain time, we have been taught throughout the scriptures that if we continue to have hope and faith, we should have nothing to fear about the future. In Alma 36:3 Alma encourages his son Helaman, “I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me; for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day”. It is hard to imagine a stronger support group than we have with our friends of the Parley’s 3rd Ward. As a Ward family…

Bishopric Message – April
For most of us the commotion we are experiencing with COVID-19, economic turmoil and overall anxiousness is coming all at once. Excepting the more seasoned adults among us who have experienced war, prior epidemics and other turmoil, much of the concerns we are facing are new and very unnerving. News, radio, and other sources of media remind us of perspectives held by others about our prospects. However, not all of those perspectives are accurate. Given the choice to see the negative or the positive, do any people on this earth have any more reason to be positive than us? After all, we understand the Plan of Salvation, even the Great…

Letter from the Snows
Dear Parleys 5th Ward, We are home from our mission. We are sad we had to leave our mission early, but we are grateful to have arrived safely and well. We are in self-isolation for a few more days, but so far no indication of any illness. We had booked a trip, in January, for the time the temple would be closed for maintenance and cleaning in March. The trip was a bus tour that would take us through England and Scotland. As the news about the COVID-19 became more intense, we debated whether or not we should go. It had all been approved by the Temple Department and our…
